A decade of innovation is recognised at IFA
Under the slogan “manufacturer of quantity to manufacturer of quality”, leading Chinese household appliance manufacturers were celebrated for the 13th time at IFA. Held by China Household Electric Appliance Research Institute (CHEARI), and supported by IFA and German Industry and Commerce Ltd, the China Household Appliances Awards has followed the trajectory of Chinese innovation over the last decade.
The award ceremony this year recognised achievements across 22 technological innovations, 32 product innovations, 15 design innovations. The ceremony also includes a prize for the most influential household appliance brand across categories including television, refrigerators and freezers, washing machines, water heaters, range hoods, vacuum cleaners and much more. Companies from Haier to Hisense, Midea, Panasonic and TCL are each vying for the award.
Chen Yan, Chief Secretary of the Chinese Embassy in Germany, was on hand to introduce the awards, noting that China had not only become Germany’s largest trading partner, but has developed major innovation collaborations with Europe’s largest economy. This makes IFA the perfect vehicle to showcase Ch ine s e hous eho ld appliance innovations across diverse categories. Chinese manufacturers have, in the process, changed from “followers to leaders”, said Chen. Jens Heithecker, IFA Executive Director, confirmed to Chinese industry figures that “you are at the right place” at IFA. He noted that the introduction of household appliances at IFA a decade ago has mirrored the rise of the Chinese household appliance sector into a major global player.
