TCL TARGETS FURTHER EUROPEAN EXPANSION

The Chinese TV maker is consolidating its strong global presence, and targeting Europe with an award- winning new model

Chinese television manufacturer TCL unveiled a bold new design-led range and revealed plans to significantly boost market share in Europe at a packed IFA press conference.

TCL Electronics CEO Kevin Wang said the company, one of China’s largest consumer electronics groups and one of the big three global TV manufacturers, was “now truly global”.

Setting out the rm’s vision of TV as a “home nerve centre”, TCL senior product designer Tiago Abreu raised the curtain on a flagship designer range called the Living Window series which draws its inspiration from major art movements. The four wall-mounted models based on Art Deco, Cubist, Minimalist and Oriental themes all feature state-of- the-art voice-activated AI integration.

“The Living Window series completely redefines television,” he said. “We want to bring artistic life to our customers and design straight to their home”.

TCL Europe’s Frederic Langin said the Chinese firm’s growing presence globally was being reflected strongly in European markets. TCL successfully launched in the UK earlier this year and was now up and running in 25 European countries.

But the firm’s ambitions didn’t end there. “We want to be among the top three in Europe by 2020,” he said. Austria, Switzerland and the Netherlands are next on TCL’s list of target territories.

Leading the rm’s push into the continent is the new C76 range, an ultra-thin, Android-equipped 4K HDR set with a powerful built- in JBL soundbar. TCL says the sleek bezel-less design concept uses aluminum and metal with no screws or plastic, meaning the series is not only a beautiful piece of craftsmanship but a sustainable one. The C76 is billed as a timeless piece of design, “destined to blend in perfectly with the living space.”

Langin explained that the C76 was designed to meet the rigorous needs of a European market where, apart from highest picture quality, exceptional sound was the main must-have for consumers. The built- in cylindrical soundbar has an array of front-firing speakers for a high-end listening experience.

The C76’s performance, design and 7.9mm profile has already proved a big hit with the critics, its 55- inch incarnation scooping an EISA Best Buy Award. Jurors praised its “all- round appeal”, noting how the JBL soundbar gave pictures a sonic boost. They concluded: “The 55DC760 is a great value-for-money TV, particularly when you consider its roster of added features, elegant design and connectivity options.”

“For us to be endorsed by the European media is very, very important,” noted Langin.
