McIntosh introduce innovative hi-fi radio tuner

Audio specialist McIntosh has revealed details about its new hi-fi radio tuner, a high-end device that is especially well-suited to audiophiles.

The McIntosh MR89 AM/FM Tuner aims to “maximise sound quality from AM/FM broadcasts”, with a range of innovative and dependable features. The device features McIntosh’s radio frequency circuitry, meaning it can receive strong FM signals from local stations. This leads to minimal distortion when tuning in. As well as this, the device notably includes updates to sensitivity, signal-to-noise ratio, harmonic distortion, channel selectivity, and stereo separation.

The tuner also comes with a signal-quality monitor, which displays detailed multipath noise levels for the listener. This information is especially useful for listeners who are trying to find the best signal for their favourite station.

This tuner is made especially for “pure” radio enthusiasts, with no options for digital audio broadcasting or streaming internet radio. That said, the product can give listeners over 20 preset stations, along with analogue and digital outputs.

In terms of design, the McIntosh product features a black-glass front panel and a stainless steel chassis.

The high-end tuner is available for around €7,900 (£6,800). The device was made available for pre-order in mid-June.
